jewellery making workshops open call

Jewellery Making Workshops at Birmingham Jewellery Biennial.

Expressions of interest open 21 September, close 2 November 2026

The opportunity

Make it, every day

Birmingham Jewellery Biennial exists to celebrate jewellery and the people who make it. As part of the festival we're building a month-long public participation programme, so that anyone visiting has the chance to make a piece of jewellery every single day in May 2027. If you can help us deliver that, this is your open call.

Could you deliver a workshop?

Workshops for everyone

We're inviting organisations and makers to run workshops every day of May 2027, across Birmingham and predominantly in the Jewellery Quarter. We want a real mix, in content, duration, skill level and price, so everyone get involved. There's no fixed format for the workshops themselves, just a shared focus on hands-on jewellery making.

Beginners
One-day sessions making stacking rings or bangles
Families
Sessions using alternative materials like paper or textiles
Experienced makers

Pricing

Can I charge?

Yes. We expect most workshops to run at commercial rates, and we'll give feedback if your pricing looks well out of step with similar sessions submitted. If your organisation can offer free places as part of a funded programme, we'd love to hear from you too. Please note that the cost of any materials, venue hire, tutor hire and any other costs must be covered by workshop fees. You must develop and deliver the workshop in full.

Criteria

A few simple things

Your workshop must be a jewellery workshop taking place in Birmingham, between 1 and 31 May 2027. You'll need a confirmed venue to submit, though get in touch if you're keen to deliver sessions but don't have one yet, we may be able to help connect you. Organisations based outside Birmingham are welcome to be part of the festival but all workshops must happen in the city.

Workshops must be open to everyone, though it's fine to pitch one at a particular skill level.

You must be willing to badge your workshop as being part of Birmingham Jewellery Biennial. We will share our logo and our brand guidelines to help you do this. You must agree not to promote your workshop ahead of the festival programme going live on our website on 3 March 2027.

If you have any difficulty using this form or have specific access needs that would help you complete your application, please get in touch at coordinator@birminghamjewellerybiennial.com. Let us know your preferred contact method and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.
